Discussion

  1. Beer garden results

    • Under-attended both by active and associate Pride members

    • Had a good amount of newcomers

    • Attendance reduced due to competition with AUS, EUS and Mardi Gras

    • Would like to have more varied music

  2. Poster distribution

    • Will remove the “date posted” sections on the exec contact list

    • Will create a tracking sheet available beside the posters to see which buildings have been done.

    • Should have most of the posters up by Tuesday, the week of the event

    • If we just had a few designated people to put up posters, there would be more accountability and less confusion

    • Seamus (GLOW) is able to take charge of postering.

    • Richard (FYR) can also put up the all-ages events posters

    • Residences: poster rules vary from residence to residence, but Marine Drive needs them approved at the front desk.

    • Could also poster lampposts outside of residences.

  3. Awareness Fair, February 7

    • Should start on the list of groups attending the Awareness Fair as soon as possible

    • Beaner (TTT) does not have the list of last year’s attendees, so exec members should send any ideas to the Outreach coordinators

    • Carlos has not replied to any emails

  4. Double Double Foil and Fumble

    • Pride UBC was approached by Wren Handman, who would like to donate proceeds from her production to Pride UBC.

    • It is a joint production between UBC Theatre and Creative Writing faculties.

    • Tickets are by donation.

    • More information will be sent to the Cole for the QTW.

  5. Secondary exec meetings

    • Secondary exec meetings have been cancelled, but a new Doodle will be sent out to see how many people are able to attend.

  6. Pride office cleanliness

    • The Pride office has been recently cleaned and it should stay that way. Exec members should take it upon themselves to own the space and respect it a place where people can kick back and relax. Aside from being a social space, it is also an “office” and should be kept looking professional.

  7. Outweek committee meetings

    • Reminder: Outweek meetings are now at 1-2 PM on Fridays.

  8. Storm the Wall

    • Is held in early March

    • Seamus will start gauging interest in a Pride UBC team.

  9. Queer swing dance event

    • Abby (QT) is interested in starting a queer swing dancing event and would like to know what is required.

    • All we really need is to book a room and do the usual promotions.

    • Could also collaborate with Swing Kids.

    • Will send Angie’s email to Abby.

  10. Gay and Lesbian Liberation Front of Africa of Seattle update

    • Won’t be happening in time for Outweek because we can’t find a location.

    • May happen later in the year.

  11. Spaced Out, January 28

    • Sushi and Italian soda will be served.

    • With past all-ages events, we seem to attract mainly first years. Perhaps if it was promoted as a “Pride UBC dance” rather than an “all-ages event” there would be better attendance.

  12. Promotions brainstorming

    • Some people have complained that there isn’t enough variation in the music. Could alternate dance remixes with more recognizable songs.

    • Beaner (TTT) mentioned last term that many of the posters seemed to mainly target gay men.

    • Email social coordinators with feedback and ideas for themes.

    • The problem with themes is that people feel pressured into dressing up or think they’ll stand out if they come as is. The problem with doing no theme is that other people become disappointed that they couldn’t dress up at all.

    • Put “costumes encouraged but optional” in the event descriptions

    • Ask how people heard about the event at the desk or have a tally. This way, we can see if increasing poster numbers actually increases attendance or if people are hearing about the event from other sources.

Meeting adjourned at 12:47
