Subject: Douglas College Nursing Students need your help!
To: prideubc@interchange.ubc.ca

Hi there, I am representing a group of us (three) from the Douglas
College nursing program...wondering if you can help us. We are doing a
community development project involving trying to connect LGBTQ
nursiing students from the major nursing programs in BC. We are
workign on gettign a website together and hoping to collaborate with
LGBTQ students from these programs.

Here is the tough part..gaining access to this population. We need a
way to get the word out about meetings we are hosting at Douglas
College in our student union builidng every two weeks. We just had a
meeting yesterday and two individuals..one form Douglas and one from
BCIT came. Although this wasn't as successful as we would have liked,
we haven't had a chance to access UBC in any way as none of us know
anyone in the nursing program there. We have a letter/notice written
up explaining our meetings and goals but the problem lies in getting
access to UBC computer communication system if possible like we have
here(WEBCT). Can you help us? We understand the need for complete
confidentiality as nursing program is not the most LGBTQ friendly
environment/program.

Any help with this, woudl be greatly appreciated. Our next
meeting/gathering is a week this Monday. there will be food and great
converstation in a safe environment we aim to create. the metign time
an dlocation is only emailed to individuals that will be attending. Do
you happen to know a contact in the nursing department that may be
able/willing t help us?

Thanks for any help you can offer us!
Lindsay"

Attn: all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning nursing students
and their allies:

We are a group of semester VI general nursing students from Douglas College
working on a community development project involving the LGBTQ population.
Our goals are to facilitate community amongst LGBTQ nursing students and their
allies. We are hosting casual gatherings every two weeks to have fun,
share experi-
ences and build relationships. We will also be serving coffee and
freshly baked goods!
If you are interested in meeting your peers, please send an email to
pmajkowski@hotmail.com .

Your confidentiality will be respected as per the CRNBC standards of practice
and CNA Code of Ethics.

In the spirit of pride,

Do know that the lobbying efforts also created significant tensions between the institution’s Board of Governors and the provincial government. In May 2001, Okanagan University College’s Board accepted a committee report that said new legislation should give Okanagan full university status, including an unrestricted instructional and research mandate. In May 2001, the Board signed a Collective Agreement with the Faculty Association which provided for traditional academic ranks for faculty and much higher pay for senior ranks, on the grounds that this is necessary to compete effectively with universities for faculty. thanks :)

Dan and I, the Outweek coordinators, will soon begin approaching various local businesses to ask for donations of items for the silent auction that we are hoping to hold at the Outweek Wine and Cheese event. If anyone would like to suggest some businesses that might be willing to donate some nice things in return for some advertising , we would really appreciate it.
