The Laramie Project

Looking for something entertaining to do this Friday? Go see the Laramie Project!

Theatre @ UBC presents:

The Laramie Project

It's about the town of Laramie, Wyoming, and how they deal with the murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay university student who was beaten to death by Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson. All the lines were taken verbatim from the actual people portrayed in the play. UBC alumna and one of Canada's favourite stage actors, Nicola Cavendish, directs the play, featuring over 50 characters played by 15 Intermediate BFA Acting candidates.

The Plan:
- Meet at 7:15pm in front of the Frederic Wood Theatre.
- Show starts at 7:30pm
- Tickets at just $10

Transgender Day of Remembrance

Friday, November 20, 2009

The Transgender Day of Remembrance was set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The event is held in November to honour Rita Hester, whose murder in 1998 kicked off the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Since then, the event has grown to encompass memorials in dozens of cities across the world.
